Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

December 5, 2019

Every December I read A Christmas Carol by the masterful Charles Dickens, there’s nothing, absolutely nothing to put you in the spirit like that classic tale of a cold heart turning warm.

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!” - Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol

Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street   watercolor on paper

🎄🎥 There's nothing quite like cozying up to a favorite holiday film, and seeing what feels like an old friend who only comes to visit once a year. This is my newest illustration and interpretation of the classic scene at the end of Miracle on 34th Street. And here are the flicks that made it to my personal top five favorites:

✨ 5. "Rudolph" ✨4. "It's a Wonderful Life" ✨ 3. "The Nutcracker" with Elle Fanning ✨2. "The Polar Express" ✨ 1. "Muppet Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens ✨

And of course I love Miracle on 34th Street, in its charming and magical black and white cinematography!! 🍬🎅

It’s no secret that I adore Charles Dickens, and have been known to recite a quote or two.
(Confession: I was smitten with him in high school, and he’s been my literary-sweetheart ever since.)

So it was only a matter of time until I turned one of his characters into an animal. In Bob Cratchit’s case, a songbird. It seemed to me that a feathered friend matched Bob’s disposition perfectly. Cheerful. Singing. Jolly. And all around a good-natured soul.
Why, I have just described both Bob Cratchit and a robin!
